Of Mice and Men
George and Lennie's dream is to own their own farm. Their problem is, they're fleeing from their previous employment after Lennie, who likes touching soft things, touched a young woman's dress and wouldn't let go. Their problem gets even worse when they meet Curley, who hates large people such as Lennie. Various farmhands offer to pitch into their dream. Then, Curley's flirtatious wife comes and flirts with them and, when she finds out that Lennie likes stroking soft things, lets him stroke her hair. Unfortunately, she panics when she finds out how strong he is and in the ensuing panic, Lennie accidentally breaks her neck. Lennie and George then talk about their dream, when George shoots Lennie in the back of the head seconds before Curley's lynch mob arrives. Only Slim, a farmhand, realizes that George killed Lennie because George wanted Lennie to die a quick, painless death.

The next day, the man, along with an old horse, Easter, are gone. The Moon Is Down
A small coastal town is overrun by invading armies, and the colonel of the invading battalion tries to operate under a veil of civility and law; however, the order is disrupted when a man who is ordered to work in the mines kills a captain with a pickax. The town serves a mine, and sections of the railroad are constantly damaged, and whenever a soldier relaxes his guard, goes out for a drink, or goes out with a woman, he is killed. The resistance gets stronger as the soldiers realize that there is no chance of victory and start wishing to simply go home. Members of the resistance start asking the British for help, who drop dynamite and chocolate around town. In a panic, the colonel takes the mayor hostage; but the mayor tells everyone that he can die. Before he dies, he tells a Dr. Winter that the resistance will be continued.
